EUGENE, OR (March 23, 2018) – For the fifth consecutive year, barrel-aged beer lovers will gather in
Eugene, Oregon for Oakshire’s annual Hellshire Day. This renowned barrel-aged beer festival features
over 40 rare barrel-aged beers from around the country, served up in a single day on Saturday May 12th.
The festival’s headlining beer is Hellshire VIII; Oakshire’s 2018 Vintage release in the Hellshire series of
bourbon barrel-aged imperial stouts. In addition to the Saturday event, aficionados of specialty beer
may start the celebration early, on Friday evening May 11th with The Hellshire Experience; an intimate
all-inclusive evening with Oakshire’s Lead Brewer Dan Russo and Founder Jeff Althouse, featuring
Vintage draft pours from the beer library, food and live music.
On Saturday May 12th at noon, Hellshire Day kicks off with an incredible variety of barrel-aged beers,
available in a small, casual, beer festival atmosphere. Due to extremely limited availability for many of
the beers, the list evolves, but currently shows 36 breweries represented and 31 beers determined (see
attached). “It’s a great honor for us that our brewery friends from around the country continue to share
their rarest beers with us,” said Dan Russo, Oakshire’s Lead Brewer and curator of Hellshire Day’s beer
offerings. The festival will also feature food carts Buck Buck (fried chicken), Oregon Wood Fired Pizza,
Bing King (Chinese street food) and more. Live music throughout the day will round out Hellshire Day
(and evening) wrapping up at 8pm.
Oakshire Founder Jeff Althouse describes the fest as “a celebration of the pinnacle of craftsmanship in
beer making. Hellshire Day showcases rare and special beers from a variety of independent brewers.
The community gathering of beer makers and beer drinkers at Hellshire Day is a rare experience in the
underworld of barrel-aged beer.”
The Hellshire Day Barrel-aged Beer Festival will run from 12pm-8pm at the Oakshire Public House,
located at 207 Madison Street in Eugene. $30 In-advance (thru 5/11/18), available now at
oakbrew.com/hellshire or at Oakshire Brewing’s Public House, or $35 at the Fest. Tickets include festival
entry, festival glass and 5 tokens. Most beers are one token ($2) per 4oz pour.
Hellshire Day, May 11, 2018 also marks the release of the eighth installment of Oakshire’s barrel-aged
Hellshire series. Hellshire VIII is a take on Mexican coffee: a big and bold chocolaty imperial stout aged
in 4 Roses Distillery Kentucky bourbon barrels. Showcasing a natural and sweet vanilla from the wood;
cinnamon, cocoa nibs, coffee, and escalating peppers, Hellshire VIII takes after the Especial versions of
the previous two years. “The spiciness comes through as a warming pepper sensation across your
palate, super smooth and crazy drinkable for the high ABV” said Dan Russo, who also leads Oakshire’s
barrel aging programs. Clocking in at 14.0% ABV, Hellshire VIII is a bold and otherworldly stout available
in 22oz wax dipped bottles with label art by Weirdo Artist Sean Aaberg.
Hellshire VIII Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with cinnamon, cocoa nibs, coffee, vanilla beans and
dried peppers is available at Hellshire Day $20 per 22oz bottle
Furthermore! On Friday, May 11th (Hellshire Eve) from 6-9pm we celebrate the Hellshire Experience with
the Oakshire Team, live music, food, and Vintage pours from the beer library. This behind- the-scenes
all-inclusive warehouse party will give barrel-aged beer fans and industry professionals the chance to try
Hellshire VIII for the first time along with other special vintage offerings. Also included is an extremely
rare Oakshire Vintage Brunch in Hell 750ml Bottle for each guest to relive the experience in their own
time. The first bottling for this perennial favorite is a divergent offspring of Hellshire VIII’s base beer laid
to rest in a freshly dumped St. Croix Rum Barrel. This single barrel breakfast inspired beer features and
Organic Vermont Maple Syrup and single origin Columbian varietal coffee roasted by our friends at
Slightly Coffee Roasters.
The Hellshire Experience will run from 6pm-9pm at the Oakshire Public House, located at 207 Madison
Street in Eugene. $100 Advance Tickets (thru 5/10/18) available now at oakbrew.com/hellshire or at
Oakshire Brewing’s Public House. Hellshire Experience Tickets also include an 11am VIP Hellshire Day
festival entry, festival glass and 5 tokens. Most beers are one token ($2) per 4oz pour.
